The Golf Assistant Program (GAP)
is composed of five components; AdLink, ClubLink, MainLink, PlayLink,
and ProLink. Each component has a seperate Operation Manual, accessed above.
A golf course may not want all components and may select an idividual component,
such as PlayLink, although AdLink is necessary to set up the system.
When a course decides to incorporate the GAP system, a team of course
executives is chosen by the course to help the GAP technician set up the course
and initiate the AdLink set-up procedure. Training on the component(s) will also take
place at this time.
Before set-up is initiated, Wireless Fixed LAN Units (WFLU) are installed around the
course. Locations for these programmable "tags" are determined by a
GAP technician, with input from the golf course superintendent, pro and/or
any other person that the golf course chooses. Tags have a range of ~600 ft outside, but
placing them at distances less than this, ensures uniterrupted coverage in the case of
damage, or if the battery expires. (Expected life of the lithium batteries is 5+ years).
The WFLU tags may be installed in a varity of weather-proof housings or placed in
new or existing fixed equipment, such as irrigation sprinklers. This option allows
for complete coverage of the course, in a well defined grid, and also allows for
irrigation management if the wireless irrigation option is selected.
Once the WFLU tags are instsalled and tested, an aerial map is overlaid on the grid.
The result is a layout of the course, on computer screen or a system LCD monitor,
showing the location of the WFLU grid. These locations are shown in a specific color
and have PIN identifiers assigned to each tag. This provides the basis for all future
operations including location, tracking, communicating with other WFLU tags or any
other fixed or mobile tag.
Each GAP tag is assigned a number, which is then used to determine the identity,
location, security rating, schedule or history of the tag carrier. These tag numbers
are initially assigned to the fixed WLAN units (WFLU). Numbers are assigned to all staff,
equipment, members or any other asset that needs to be monitored. Initially, these numbers
are assigned by the GAP administrator, who will eventually allot blocks of
numbers to department managers, who will then assign them as needed.
Security access can be associated with any tag, whether fixed or mobile. Assignment
of security levels is done by the system administrator when opening a new account.
Assigning security may also be done by other department heads, once the GAP
is set-up and functional. Although each tag recognizes every other tag, and thus grants
access or not, advanced security components may be required, demanding that the tag
carrier enter his/her PIN number for access.
